Christ the King, Chingford

Music and liturgy

Evensong was celebrated in the crypt of St Peter's Basilica near the tombs of St Peter and Benedict XVI, a privilege granted because a specific rite was being celebrated. The altar servers learn about the liturgy, the history of the Mass, origins of feast days and a little Latin.

Parish life

The parish serves parts of Walthamstow and Chingford and publishes a bi-weekly Newsletter. The parish's Legion of Mary group is within the Our Lady Mother of Divine Grace Praesidium. The Legion of Mary also has Auxiliary Members who pray the Rosary and other prayers daily.

There has been a strong team of altar servers at Christ the King for many years. The altar servers learn life skills of teamwork, self-sufficiency, leadership, and the importance of following instructions. After about a year, altar servers are invited to join the Archconfraternity of St Stephen, the guild to which the team belongs. At the age of eighteen the parish tends to lose its servers to further education and when they live away from the parish.

The Oblates of the Assumption support the prayerful life of the parish and its formation. The parish is served by a priest of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham.

Regular events

The parish hosts monthly coffee mornings after the Sunday masses to support the orphanage. In November and December, two groups were taken to the National Gallery in London for spiritual preparation of Advent and Christmas through selected art.

Visiting

The parish participates in the Brentwood diocese annual pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. The church has access for physically disabled and a loop system for hearing aid users.
