About Church of Saint Saviour

Church of Saint Saviour is a Roman Catholic church in Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Westminster.

Introduction

The Society of the Divine Saviour (Salvatorians) founded the church in 1928. The present church, built later, was consecrated in 1963.

Parish life

The parish runs an RCIA group, led by parish catechists, that helps adults prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation. Parish groups gather for prayer, social action, Sacramental preparation, youth work, and mutual support.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Preparation for baptism usually takes place with the priest. Parents resident in the parish who wish their child to receive baptism are asked to make an appointment with the Parish Priest.

Sacramental preparation for First Holy Communion usually takes place once a year, beginning in the Autumn. Children in Year Three (aged eight) who are baptised may receive the Sacrament of Eucharist and Penance. Children must be regularly attending Mass in order to enrol in the sacramental preparation programme.

Confirmation is available to anyone in Year Nine (aged fourteen) who has already received Baptism and the Eucharist. Wedding bookings at St Saviours require at least six months notice and that both parties are free to marry in the eyes of the Catholic Church.
