Introduction
The Church of St James in Tiverton, within the Diocese of Plymouth, was built in 1967 as a social centre to generate funds for the parish school.
History
A new entrance hall with modernised facilities was added to the building in 2009. In 2014, the old concrete asbestos roof was replaced with a new one.
Parish life
The parish is a community formed of three distinct pastoral realities: St Boniface (Cullompton), St James (Tiverton) and St John’s Primary School. The SVP group at St James is part of an international Christian voluntary membership organisation that tackles poverty and disadvantage by helping and supporting vulnerable people.
The parish's CaFOD Group seeks ways that the community can express its faith through actions, fund raising and awareness in solidarity with others across the world and to live in a more sustainable way. Baptism is celebrated either during Sunday Mass or as a separate service, normally on a Sunday afternoon.
