Corpus Christi

Introduction

Corpus Christi in Wolverhampton is distinguished by its present church, which was opened and blessed in November 1991.

History

The parish owes its origins to Canon M. Woulfe, who in 1955 agreed the purchase of the present site for a church and school at Ashmore Park. A new porch was built onto the new church during the time of the parish priest who succeeded in 1994.

Music and liturgy

The traditional choir sings at the Sunday Masses on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday of the month. After one or two years of committed service, a server may be admitted to the Guild of Saint Stephen for Altar Servers.

First Confessions are usually celebrated in Advent, and First Holy Communion during May. The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated each year, usually in early June.

Parish life

The Union of Catholic Mothers at Corpus Christi holds regular meetings. Strong links were established between the parish and Featherstone Prison, with parishioners becoming prison visitors.

Catechesis for First Holy Communion is given at Corpus Christi during the week. A scout band was formed and regularly accompanied processions around the estate in honour of the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady.
