About Holy Cross, Hucknall
Holy Cross, Hucknall is a Roman Catholic church in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. It is part of the Diocese of Nottingham.
Music and liturgy
The parish has various music groups providing music during its liturgies. The Fold group, about 10 musicians, plays and sings at Mass on the 1st and 3rd Sundays and the 2nd Saturday Masses. The Kenyan music group plays occasionally, such as during the International Mass and Harvest Mass.
Parish life
The Emmaus Group is a small group of parishioners formed to support bereaved families at funerals in the parish. Baptism Classes are held every three months in Our Lady’s parish hall and cover both churches. The parish is seeking to install an Ecumenical Group to work for Christian unity and represent the parish in different groups and organisations. Only two people attend ecumenical meetings and interact with other churches in Bulwell and Bestwood to represent the parish.
A team of people arranges flowers in the churches to make them look nicer. Readers proclaim the Word of God and introduce the Prayers of the Faithful in the liturgy. A group provides refreshments on Sunday morning after Mass at Our Lady’s, enabling parishioners to socialise in the parish hall. Welcomers warmly welcome those attending liturgies and hand out additional information such as mass sheets and collection information.
A group writes the Introduction and the Bidding Prayers for the weekend liturgy. The parish has a group of altar servers, boys and girls of First Communion age and upwards, who assist the priest and deacon during Mass and other liturgies. There is no Youth Group in the parish, but volunteers are sought to set one up. A group of people dedicates itself to keeping the church clean.
The Diocesan Adult Formation Department supports the on-going growth in faith of adult members of the Catholic community in the Diocese of Nottingham. Baptism Classes are offered for parents wishing to have their child baptised at Holy Cross Hucknall.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Marriage preparation is guided by a priest and a deacon who work together to support couples spiritually, with arrangements made at least six months in advance.
