About Our Lady and St. Werburgh
Our Lady and St. Werburgh is a Roman Catholic church in Clayton, Staffordshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
Parish life
The music ministry plays an important role in weekly worship at Clayton. Volunteers at the church and neighbouring churches run several activity groups, including a parents' and toddlers group, children's liturgy, a youth club, the Clayton Social Group and a Journey of Faith Group. Young at Heart has been running since 2013, created to combat loneliness and give people aged 55 and over a place to socialise and make new friends. The youth group is open to year groups 4–13, covering ages 9–18.
The parent and toddler group provides a safe, informal environment for parents, carers, pre-school children and babies to meet, play and socialise. Journey of Faith for adults welcomes adults of all ages and backgrounds to the Catholic faith, meeting in the upper room at the church. The Piety Stall is manned at both Sunday morning Masses by volunteers. A team of volunteer coffee makers is on hand after each church service. The parish committee's mission includes strengthening bonds with parish groups, the parish school, the sister parish at Ashley, the Deanery and other Christian churches.
Regular events
The parish committee organises annual Summer and Winter Fayres. The parish committee organises an annual joint parishes (Clayton & Ashley) Mass and Picnic and Family Fun Day. The parish committee organises an annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party.
Sacraments and pastoral care
In the older children's liturgy group an adult teacher and helper are present, so parents need not attend. The parish committee was involved in practical and spiritual preparations for the consecration of the church in February 2007. The parish committee helped run CaFE courses and a CaFE retreat. The parish committee gave practical help with meetings and events including CAFE training sessions, Catechetical Association meetings and Deanery meetings.
