Our Lady of Canvey & the English Martyrs is a Roman Catholic church in Canvey Island, Essex. It is part of the Diocese of Brentwood.

Parish life

The Mercy Associates group was founded in 2000 and meets monthly for prayer and discussion. The Parish Council exists to help the Parish Priest carry out his pastoral ministry to the Parish Community.

Catechists lead the programmes of preparation for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, First Holy Communion, Reconciliation, and Marriage. Readers proclaim the Word of God in scripture and the intercessory prayers during the weekday and weekend Masses at Our Lady of Canvey. Altar Servers assist the Priest, Ministers, Readers and congregation during Mass, and after one year they take vows as a member of the Guild of St Stephen and receive a Bronze medal. Lay Ministers of the Eucharist assist the Priest with the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass and may take Holy Communion to parishioners unable to attend Mass due to ill-health or incapacity.

The parish has teams dedicated to looking after the small linen or keeping the interior of the Church clean. People who cannot attend Mass because of sickness or old age may receive communion at home from Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
