About Our Lady of Dover

Our Lady of Dover is a Roman Catholic church in Buckland, Kent. It is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark.

Music and liturgy

The children's liturgy group decorated the 2021 Christmas Tree. The children's liturgy group made a display for Pentecost representing the Holy Spirit as tongues of fire, with a cake celebrating Pentecost as the birthday of the Church. For the Easter Light Party, the Easter story was told by puppets Rosie and Dexter, with an activity pack. During Lent, the children work on things to add to the Lenten Journey laid in front of the Altar, with Palms added on Palm Sunday.

The children each made their own individual boat and together produced a display placed beside the altar. The church has a special seating area near the Altar, the small person's Grandstand, for a good view. The church has a sound-proof room very near to the front, with entrance by the Lady Altar. The church has a porch which is effectively sound-proofed.

The church has a carpet so youngsters can sit on the floor and walk around without disturbing anyone. The church has pictures, crayons, leaflets and books to help children concentrate. Parents are encouraged to anticipate special periods of the Mass and encourage children to join in, such as Gloria, Holy Consecration, Great Amen, Our Father, Silent Prayer during the Great Prayer of Thanksgiving, and after Communion. Parents are encouraged to have children join in singing, waving at the Priest's arrival and departure, shaking hands at the sign of peace, and the children's liturgical reading.

The parish welcomed a monsignor to confer the sacrament of Confirmation on younger parishioners and pupils from the Duke Of York's School. The annual Lent Lunch was held at Our Lady's on Saturday 7th March, with funds going to CAFOD. In January, the afternoon sunlight shines through the Rose Window at the rear of the Church and lights the Pieta and the Crib. The parish held a Polish ceremony Swieconka: The Blessing of Easter Baskets in 2017.

The Blessing of Palms took place on Palm Sunday April 2017. The parish provided a venue for Mass for about 120 young people from the Archdiocese of Birmingham on 19 July 2016.
