About Our Lady of Good Counsel
Our Lady of Good Counsel is a Roman Catholic church in Broughty Ferry, Dundee City. It is part of the Diocese of Dunkeld.
Introduction
Thomas M Cappon designed Our Lady of Good Counsel in Broughty Ferry in 1904, with a later twentieth century addition. The church is a Category C listed building, added on 29/10/1991.
Architecture and furnishings
The addition to the church has marred the integrity of both the interior and exterior. The W elevation has a 3-stage tower with a 4-stage octagonal stair tower, each with crenellated parapet. The interior was remodelled in the later twentieth century, with a gallery and stained glass window at the W end. The tower contains a carillon. The south elevation has a segmental-arched door at the left, two bays at the right each with a two-light window, and an advanced bay at the far right with a door and a cat-slide swept-down roof.
Visiting
Visitors can see the pointed-arch door with its moulded doorhead and ogival hoodmould, as well as the ashlar niche at the 2nd stage holding a statue of Madonna and Child beneath a traceried canopy.
