About Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Chesham Bois

Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Chesham Bois is a Roman Catholic church in Chesham Bois, Buckinghamshire. It is part of the Diocese of Northampton.

Introduction

Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in Chesham Bois, within the Diocese of Northampton, began as a small church built in 1915 with seating for about 70 people.

History

The Carmelites, who had served the mission, moved to Gerrards Cross but continued to care for Chesham Bois until 1917. In 1953 the church was extended to seat 180 people. As the Catholic population grew, two new parishes were created: Saint Columba’s, Chesham, in 1960, and Saint Aidan’s, Little Chalfont, in 1965. In 1908 the Carmelite Fathers served Chesham Bois from a chapel made from a disused railway hut, which was replaced two years later by a second-hand iron building.
