About Our Lady & St Wilfrid
Our Lady & St Wilfrid is a Roman Catholic church in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. It is part of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle.
Introduction
Bishop Hogarth laid the foundation stone of Saint Joseph's on 25 May 1858, with Father Edward Consitt as parish priest and architect Archibald Dunn.
History
After the fire of 1854, the Assembly Rooms of the Queen's Head Hotel on Bottle Bank served as a chapel until Saint Joseph's Church opened. The parish began in 1851 when Father Betham took up residence at 51 Saint Catherine Terrace, with its first name Our Lady and Saint Wilfrid's and a temporary chapel in a warehouse in Hillgate.

The parish comprises St Joseph's Catholic Church, Gateshead, and Our Lady and St Wilfrid's Catholic Church, Felling, within the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. Our Lady and St Wilfrid's Church, Felling, stands on Sunderland Road and is reachable via Gateshead Stadium and Felling Metro stations and the number 27 bus. The parish belongs to the Bl. John Ingram Partnership Gateshead. The parish offers the opportunity for Confession and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and a Latin Mass at St Joseph's in the Extraordinary Form.
