About Sacred Heart and Mary Immaculate
Sacred Heart and Mary Immaculate is a Roman Catholic church in London, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Westminster.
Introduction
Sacred Heart and Mary Immaculate in Mill Hill, London, traces its origins to 1889, when Catholics attended Mass in the chapel of the Daughters of Charity on the Ridgeway.
History
The original church, built in the middle of three well fields, became unstable and was demolished in 1994. The foundation for the new church was blessed on June 21st, 1994. The first Mass in the new church was celebrated on Passion Sunday, April 8th, 1995. An extension to the hall and narthex was completed in 2018. PRC partnership were the architects for the new church.
Music and liturgy
Funeral services may include a mass with the liturgy of the word or a service at the crematorium. The priest helps and guides the bereaved to choose hymns and readings for the funeral service, and funeral directors can book an organist or singers.
Parish life
The parish is part of the Mill Hill Christian churches' Local Ecumenical Partnership, sharing worship, mission and service. The parish runs a creative project for refugee women in association with Barnet Refugee Centre, meeting on Friday mornings in the hall. The parish runs a Seven Steps Bible group meeting online via Zoom, following the Seven Step Process introduced at the Parish Mission. The parish runs an activity group for girls aged 5-7 years, a pre-Brownies group, meeting on Mondays.
