About Saint Francis, Maidstone

Saint Francis, Maidstone is a Roman Catholic church in Maidstone, Kent. It is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark.

Introduction

Saint Francis Parish in Maidstone, within the Archdiocese of Southwark, was founded in 1859.

Music and liturgy

Altar servers assist the priest and help the liturgy to flow with reverence and dignity. Altar servers carry the cross and candles, prepare the altar, assist with the missal and vessels, and support the priest during the liturgy. Anyone who has made their First Holy Communion is eligible to become an altar server. Servers are expected to commit to serving at least once a week, and to take part in occasional training sessions and special liturgies throughout the year.

Sacraments and pastoral care

The clergy are happy to speak about convalidations of existing civil marriages conducted outside the Catholic Church. If a parishioner is ill and unable to come to Mass, arrangements can be made for them to receive Communion at home, brought by a member of the clergy or an Extraordinary Minister of Communion.

Visiting

The parish cares for sick members at home, in hospital, or in nursing homes, with regular visits. The church has no parking facilities except disabled parking spaces to the side of the church accessed via Week Street. There are two car parks in nearby Brewer Street and the Maidstone East Station car parks, where all charge a fee to park.
