About Saint Gabriel

Saint Gabriel is a Roman Catholic church in Uddingston, North Lanarkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Motherwell.

Introduction

Saint Gabriel Church in Uddingston, within the Diocese of Motherwell, was officially opened on October 16th 1977.

Architecture and furnishings

The parish was founded in April 1976 as a daughter parish of Saint Columba's. In the back right hand corner, a candle stand and various items are dedicated to Saint John Paul II, the patron saint of the Primary School attended by the children. A Lithuanian Cross is displayed, the original and full size of which stands on the Hill Of Crosses at Sauliai, Lithuania, along with a photograph of the Ukrainian Icon "Our Lady of Pochaev". In the Porch, two versions of the Russian Icon "Our Lady of Kazan" are displayed.

The "Mother of Sorrows" Ikon beside the 12th Station of the Cross is a photograph of a Romanian original. The face of Jesus from Veronica's Veil is from Manopello in Italy. A small photo shows some local ladies with Mother Theresa of Calcutta, taken when she visited Glasgow.

Visiting

The parish supports two schools in Malawi through Mary's Meals: Mpinji Primary at Thyolo and Ostia Primary in Balaka. The Tuesday Rosary with signing follows a request made by the Pope. The church can be accessed via the Church Services TV app and Roku plug-in, with two channels: Mobile Monday to Friday and church Saturday & Sunday.

Prayer requests can be sent by email with "Prayer" in the subject line, and copies of extra prayers can be requested by email. Prayers, requests and reflections can be entrusted to the Saint Anthony's Mail Box under his statue. After Holy Communion, pre-communion age children can come forward to receive a special blessing, available to everyone during the final hymn.
