Introduction

The Bishop of Southwark blessed the third church and offered the first Mass there on Ascension Day, 19 May 1955.

Architecture and furnishings

Mr Bingham Towner of Uckfield designed the third church, his first of many church designs for the Diocese, and Richard Thorpe of Southborough, Kent built it at a cost of £4,000. The parish streams a live Mass every Sunday.

Music and liturgy

The parish has trained young musicians who have gone on to play in orchestras and professional bands. The parish invites youth to help transition from recorded music back to live performance. The parish looks forward to growing a full choir again, inviting children and youth to lead. During Sunday Mass, children are led out after the opening prayer to the hall where catechists teach the Gospel through activities and games.

Sacraments and pastoral care

The parish offers home visits to bring the Holy Sacrament to those who are unwell or unable to attend Mass. Children in Year 3 and above are invited to enrol in a preparation programme for Reconciliation and Holy Communion.

Teenagers and young adults in Year 10 and above are invited to enrol in the confirmation programme, with services usually in May at Our Lady of Ransom in Eastbourne or St Thomas of Canterbury in St Leonards on Sea. Confirmation for adults is available by request under a separate programme. A Reconciliation service is held each year during Advent and Lent in preparation for Christmas and Easter.
