Parish life

Singers join players of keyboard, guitar, violin, flute, cello, trombone and bass guitar in the music group. Fairtrade hampers are raffled, and Fairtrade Afternoon Teas take place in the parish during the year. A special event each year is how the parish marks Fairtrade Fortnight.

Crockery, pots and pans, cutlery, cleaning materials and bedding are among the reusable household items the parish collects every month. Speaking to the priest is what is asked of people considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life.

Regular floral arrangements decorate the church. Small items of altar linen are laundered each week by a rota of volunteers. Sacristans prepare the altar and sanctuary for services and open and close the church when required.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Through the Christian Initiation of Children (CIC), a team helps parents prepare children for Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist. Adults who want to know the Catholic faith and receive the sacraments of initiation are prepared by an RCIA team of catechists. Engaged couples receive preparation from a team of marriage catechists. Wedding arrangements are made with the parish priest. Families can choose readings for a funeral Mass at Saint Peter's or Saint Columba's with help from a funeral pack.
