Saint Theresa, Market Warsop

Introduction

Saint Theresa's Church in Market Warsop, Mansfield, serves a Catholic community that was formed as part of Saint Joseph's Parish, Shirebrook.

Architecture and furnishings

Before the church was built, Mass was celebrated in a local pub and then in a hut close to the present church site. The church is located on a raised, sloping site, allowing for the parish hall to be located beneath it. The church is roughly square on plan, with ancillary spaces giving off the main worship area.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Baptism preparation is arranged through the Parish Office, and baptisms are typically celebrated on a Saturday. Those who are sick or housebound can ask a priest for confession if they cannot make the scheduled times.

Couples wishing to marry in one of the churches should contact the priest or parish office at least six months before the hoped-for wedding date. Marriage preparation is by appointment with the Parish Priest. First Holy Communion preparation is arranged by contacting the Parish Office.

Those wishing to become Catholic are invited to contact the priest, deacon or a sister at the end of Mass or the parish office. Catechumens are enrolled among the Elect by the Bishop at the Cathedral in Nottingham around the beginning of Lent. Children receive Holy Communion for the first time at about age 8, with preparation organised through the Catholic schools.
