About St Agnes, Liss
St Agnes, Liss is a Roman Catholic church in Liss, Hampshire. It is part of the Diocese of Portsmouth.
Parish life
On Sunday mornings the parish has a sung Mass led by a Cantor, and at festivals a small choir is formed to lead worship. A small team of helpers arranges flowers in the church on a quarterly rota. Press releases to local media promote events at both St Laurence and St Agnes, including a half-page spread on the new copper dome in the Petersfield Post in 2012. Faith Comments for the Petersfield Post are written by the priest and parish members as part of a rota with other churches in the Petersfield area.
The Parish Communications Committee produces the twice-yearly magazine 'The Dome'. The catechesis class supports charities including Naomi House, the Salvation Army and Rowans Hospice. A dedicated team of readers serves at Masses and festivals, with a commitment to read twice every three months.
Special collections are taken through the year for causes such as CAFOD Family Fast Day, the Apostleship of the Sea, and vocations. A Justice and Peace Group is among the parish's newly formed groups. The coffee team helps out at St Laurence's Feast Day with drinks on the front lawn, weather permitting.
Sacraments and pastoral care
A meeting with the priest is arranged to prepare for the baptism of a child. At baptism, the parish presents a candle lit from the Easter candle. If a child has already been baptised in hospital, the ceremonies are celebrated in church. Children who have taken First Communion may join the team of servers.
Visiting
At St Agnes, most of the congregation is able to park in the small car park, though you may have to wait for others to leave before you can. Confession is available at St Agnes before Mass, and can be asked anytime.
The knitting group is open to everyone, with tea/coffee, needles, wool and tuition provided. Faith Comments are also available to read on the PACT website.
