About St Andrew, Tenterden
St Andrew, Tenterden is a Roman Catholic church in Tenterden, Kent. It is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark.
Introduction
The present church, built in 1935, included a choir gallery in its design. A two-manual Viscount digital organ with a custom-designed stop list was installed in May 2008.
Parish life
Representatives from various denominations caring for Christians in Tenterden and surrounding villages meet as a group about every two months. The group plans joint worship events such as the Good Friday Walk of Witness, the Town Carol Service, the Women's World Day of Prayer and the Christian Unity week service. The group organises Lent Lunches, Christian Aid collections and supports ecumenical outreach services and events such as the Foodbank, the Tenterden Community Hub and the Dementia Café. Because St Andrew's is a small parish, the Sacrament of Confirmation may not be celebrated every year.
Sacraments and pastoral care
The parish asks that Catholics who are ill, housebound, or in care homes be reported to the Parish Priest or Deacon so they can be visited and offered the relevant Sacraments. Trained and appointed extraordinary ministers bring Holy Communion regularly to the sick and housebound. The diocese requires at least six months' notice for a wedding.
