About St Anthony of Padua

St Anthony of Padua is a Roman Catholic church in Oxford, Oxfordshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Music and liturgy

Mass is celebrated every day, with various other liturgies celebrated frequently. All of the parish's Masses are live-streamed and accessible via YouTube.

A hymn to Saint Joseph was suggested to join the choir's repertoire. The men's group shared reflective prayer with a Taize background following Celtic night prayer.

Parish life

The parish has a men's group that promotes prayer, fellowship, friendship, and faith among men who regularly attend Mass at St Anthony's and their invited guests. The men's group activities include a friendship and support network, discussion group for parish initiatives, prayer, social gatherings, attending local lectures on religious matters, and practical help with parish events and longer term projects.

The Liturgy Group includes music/choir, altar servers, and readers. The clergy at St Anthony's are the Catholic chaplains for the local NHS hospitals, and systems are in place so that patients can receive Holy Communion and Anointing of the Sick on request. The parish runs a Luncheon Club for the Elderly and a Social Group for the Elderly.

Sacraments and pastoral care

The parish arranges clergy visits to housebound people, who can receive Holy Communion at their request. The church requires six months' notice of a wedding and encourages couples to attend local marriage preparation days run by Marriage Care.

The Sacramental Formation Group covers Baptism, Children's Liturgy, First Communion, Confirmation, and Marriage via Marriage Care. Confessions are heard during Adoration on Saturday evenings, or by appointment. The parish remembers deceased family members in the bulletin during the month of the anniversary of their death.
