St. Catharine's Church, Chipping Campden

Introduction

Saint Catharine's Church in Chipping Campden has an aisled cruciform plan with a small saddleback bell tower in the north-west angle of the south transept. The church is built of cut and dressed rubble with a Cotswold stone roof.

Architecture and furnishings

A circular chimney stands to the south of the chancel. The chancel arch has three heavy ribs on corbels to the soffit. The window in the south transept was made by Paul Woodroffe in 1909. The church has contemporary screens to the transepts and contemporary altar-railing and possibly reredos.

The tower's belfry stage has flat-headed openings with a different tracery pattern. The gable features a tripartite, heavily traceried niche containing a statue of the Virgin beneath a crocketted canopy. The church includes rere-arches and inner windows.
