About St. Cecilia's Church
St. Cecilia's Church is a Roman Catholic church in Sutton, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark.
Parish life
The parish runs a Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) programme for adults interested in becoming Catholic. RCIA is open to any adult who is not baptised, anyone baptised in another Christian tradition, or any baptised Catholic who has not received their First Communion and/or First Penance.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Children in Year 3 or above are welcome to celebrate their First Holy Communion. The parish requires at least one parent or adoptive parent to be Catholic and residence in the parish or a connection to the church for a child's baptism. A child needs at least one Godparent who is a practising, confirmed Catholic over the age of 18.
The parish offers funeral rites for babies who have been miscarried, stillborn or died before baptism. The parish remembers the deceased by name in bidding prayers at Mass and in the parish newsletter.
The parish requires at least six months' notice for weddings and asks couples to contact before finalising dates with a venue. Children in Southwark typically receive Confirmation after turning twelve, prepared with the parish community and remotely through Catholic secondary schools.
