St Christopher

Introduction

St Christopher's Church in Codsall, within the Archdiocese of Birmingham, is a modern Roman Catholic church that was opened in 2000.

History

From 1931, Mass was said on alternate Sundays at Blantons' teashop in Codsall. In 1961, St Christopher's became a parish church. A decision to build a new church was taken in 1999, and the old one was demolished. The foundation stone for the new building was laid on 11 February 2000, and the church was opened in August the same year.

On 17 October 2010, the church was consecrated by a bishop. A church was opened in 1934, financed by Louis Connolly, a wines and spirits merchant, in memory of his wife Henrietta. In 1964 the church was extended with a baptistery, sacristy and extra seating capacity.

Parish life

Holy Mass is live-streamed from St Christopher's. The parish SVP Conference offers friendship, practical support and prayerful accompaniment to people in need across St Christopher’s, Codsall and St Thomas of Canterbury, Tettenhall. The SVP regularly visits the sick, elderly, and lonely in their homes, in hospital, and residential homes.

The parish has a preparation team that meets with families as the date of a child's Baptism approaches. St Christopher's Catholic Church is open every day.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Couples are asked to attend a marriage preparation day. The parish runs an RCIA course as the formal process of becoming a Catholic.

SVP members host social events for older parishioners. SVP members host fundraising events to support their work.
