About St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi is a Roman Catholic church in Mannofield, Aberdeen City. It is part of the Diocese of Aberdeen.

History

The parish of Saint Francis of Assisi in Mannofield was founded in 1958, and its church hall was built first. By 1963, the first church building was already at least four or five years old. In 1982, Pope John Paul II blessed the foundation stone of the church during his visit to Scotland.

Parish life

The Sunday Mass music groups aim to enhance the spiritual theme of the Mass. Religious instruction classes at St Francis prepare children from local primary schools and the International School for Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and Confirmation. The Guild of Saint Stephen for altar servers is open to boys and girls who have made their first communion. Extra-ordinary Eucharistic Ministers help distribute Holy Communion at Mass and may bring Communion to the sick and housebound. A Parish Pastoral Council, a representative group of parishioners, meets quarterly to advise the parish priest on parish matters. Charity collections support local and national charities, and a box collects donations for the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, which helps local homeless or struggling people. The clergy or an Extra-ordinary Eucharist Minister takes Holy Communion to the housebound. A parish newsletter appears each Sunday, carrying Mass times and other useful information.
