About St John Fisher's

St John Fisher's is a Roman Catholic church in Perivale, Greater London. It is part of the Archdiocese of Westminster.

Introduction

By early 1938 the temporary wooden Church designed by Mr. John Sterrett was ready and on Sunday, February 27th the first Mass was celebrated.

History

In October 1937, Father Walter Ormiston, the first Parish Priest, came to live at 41 Langdale Gardens and said his first Mass at the Mass centre on the feast of Christ the King with a congregation of 120. On 18th June 1967 a parishioner awoke to see flames coming from the Church; the fire brigade saved the Church though it was very badly damaged, and it was patched up and ready for use again on the following Sunday. The old church was demolished after Mass was held in the school hall once the school was open.

Visiting

The parish holds a Rosary for men followed by a social gathering. Church cleaning groups work on a four-week cycle with four teams. Parishioners who are unwell or unable to come to Mass are remembered in prayers for the sick and elderly.
