About St. Joseph

St. Joseph is a Roman Catholic church in Thame, Oxfordshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Introduction

On 5th January 1913, Colonel Harman Grisewood and his wife opened the Prebendal chapel at Thame as the 'Chapel of the Holy Family'.

History

A new church in Brook Lane was built and dedicated to Saint Joseph in August 1922. In the early 1960s Saint Joseph’s Hall was built next to the Church. The original church of 1922 was demolished in January 1997. The new church commenced build in September 1996 and was completed in June 1997. Many of the stained windows in the original church were preserved and restored in the new Church.

Parish life

Children not attending a Catholic school receive additional classes for sacramental preparation. Marriage preparation is provided by Marriage Care, with days held at St Joseph's and other churches in the area. Adults seeking baptism follow the RCIA course for at least six months and are usually baptised at Easter.

The church is open for private prayer during daylight hours every day except Wednesdays. Directions to the church advise taking Southern Road and Mitchell Close from the High Street, avoiding narrow Brook Lane.
