About St Joseph the Worker

St Joseph the Worker is a Roman Catholic church in Banbury, Oxfordshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Introduction

St Joseph's church was built in 1968, originally as a Mass centre for the parish of St John's.

Parish life

The parish's music ministry is built from choristers who lead the congregation in hymns and liturgical music during Mass. The parish is part of Catholic Banbury, a community of three churches including St John the Evangelist and St Thomas, Wroxton.

St Joseph's Church is situated in the heart of Bretch Hill on the western side of Banbury. The parish has a Guild of St Stephen altar server ministry for children, shared across the St John's and St Joseph's communities.

Sacramental preparation for children attending the parish Catholic primary schools takes place through the RE curriculum at school. For children not attending a Catholic school, the parish offers preparation courses for the sacraments.

The parish runs an RCIA course for adults wishing to become Catholic. The parish is proud of its Catholic schools: St John's and St Joseph's primary schools and Blessed George Napier secondary school. The parish runs WhatsApp and Facebook community pages for announcements and news. A permanent deacon was ordained in 2004 at Saint Chad's Cathedral for the parish of Saint Joseph the Worker.
