St. Mary of the Assumption, Bo'ness

Introduction

The 1961 church, despite architectural acclaim and awards, failed to be wind and waterproof, leading to its demolition in 1990.

Music and liturgy

The parish previously had a music group, and all instruments are welcome. Children's liturgy includes preparing a song which the children sing to the congregation.

Parish life

In 2023 the Archbishop appointed a new Parish Administrator due to the health of the previous parish priest. The parish operates a minibus enabling parishioners without transport to attend Mass. The parish runs a piety stall in the church hall throughout the year selling religious and devotional gifts. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion take the Blessed Sacrament to the sick and housebound at home and in hospital.

The parish live streams Mass on its website so people can join worship from anywhere with an internet connection. Lay chaplains visit housebound parishioners at home to pray and bring Holy Communion. A fully accessible minibus supports individuals and wheelchair users in attending the Vigil Mass on Saturday evening or Sunday morning Mass.

Visiting

The Music and Movement Group meets weekly on Friday mornings in the church hall. The parish gardens have won awards year after year thanks to volunteers who maintain the grounds.
