The church was built with a school in the undercroft, according to information from a reverend source.

Architecture and furnishings

The church is built of coursed squared limestone with sandstone dressings and a Welsh slate roof with flat stone gable copings. The church has an unaisled 4-bay nave, a west porch, and a one-bay chancel. The west front has three stepped lancets under a semi-circular drip mould flanked by buttresses with broach spirelets, and a trefoil window in the gable peak. The interior retains the original pointed-arched entrance, flanked by recessed columns, located in the porch.

The church has a sloping western organ loft on two rows of cast iron columns and wooden brackets. Ignatius Bonomi designed the church in 1837, and a porch was added later.
