St Michael’s Church, South Petherton

Parish life

The parish has shared Advent and Pentecost services with music from the Keralan, Filipino, Polish and African communities. The children's choir, led by Ray Dinverno, sings a mass setting written especially for St Gildas' school.

The parish priests regularly visit those in need, in care homes and in the nearby hospital, and visit at home those unable to get to church. The parish offers RCIA, a course exploring the Catholic faith to help individuals discern whether to become Catholic. The Altar Servers' Mass is celebrated on the feast of St Stephen, followed by a gathering in the Marian Hall. The parish welcomes visitors to its weekly coffee mornings. The Marian Hall is available for hire through the parish website.

Sacraments and pastoral care

The parish requires six months notice for weddings. Anointing of the sick is available on request, and the clergy ask to be informed if someone is going into hospital. Adults seeking to know more about the Catholic faith are directed to speak to the Parish Priest and/or come to the Journey in Faith (RCIA) sessions.
