About St. Theresa - Blacon
St. Theresa - Blacon is a Roman Catholic church in Blacon, Cheshire. It is part of the Diocese of Shrewsbury.
Introduction
Saint Theresa's church in Blacon opened in 1959 for people of Blacon and neighbouring areas on the NW side of Chester.
History
On 16 July 2019 the Parish of Saint Columba and Saint Theresa, Chester, was formed from the formerly separate parishes of Saint Columba and Saint Theresa.
Parish life
Membership of the local SVP conference stands at 4. Young people in school year 5 or older can join the youth group, which combines learning about the faith with games, activities and snacks.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Biscuits with tea or coffee are available in the social club beside the church once Sunday Mass has ended. People preparing for confirmation may join a youth group or a smaller adult group, or follow separate arrangements when they need individual preparation. The usual span for confirmation preparation is May to November. Candidates must be in school year 8 or older on the day of confirmation, and no upper age limit applies.
A youth confirmation candidate who has not yet received first Holy Communion may receive it during the confirmation preparation programme. Saint Werburgh’s leads the confirmation preparation in uneven years such as ’25/’27.
A sick person may be anointed by the priest in hospital, in a hospice, in a residential home, or at home. A housebound person who needs the sacraments can receive a visit from the priest. Marriage preparation is offered by the parish for its parishioners.
