About St. Thomas of Cantebury, Fairford
St. Thomas of Cantebury, Fairford is a Roman Catholic church in Fairford, Gloucestershire. It is part of the Diocese of Clifton.
Architecture and furnishings
The Roman Catholic church was built in 1845, with the architect unknown. The church is in Victorian Early English style. The church is built of coursed limestone with freestone dressings and a Welsh slate roof with stone coped gable ends with gableted kneelers. The church has a single-cell plan with sanctuary separated from the nave by a chancel arch, a porch at the liturgical west end, and a vestry on the liturgical north side linking the church to the presbytery. The exterior has lancet windows on the 'north' and 'south' sides with buttresses between, a triple lancet at the 'east' end with a quatrefoil light above, and a stone cross at the apex of the gable.
Music and liturgy
The church features a carved stone altar and statue niches that flank the east window. A wrought-iron Communion rail is present in the church. The church contains an octagonal font. Most of the church's stained glass dates from the twentieth century.
