St William of York, Sheffield

Music and liturgy

The community's liturgical life includes daily Mass and two Sunday Masses. Morning Prayer from the Divine Office is recited in the 15 minutes before morning weekday Masses.

Parish life

The Saint William's SVP Conference visits parishioners who are sick, housebound or in need. The regional CAFOD Leeds & Hallam Office is situated in the basement of the presbytery.

The parish runs groups including S.V.P., Brownies, Rainbows, A.P.F., Cafod Group, Youth Music Group, C.A.P Group, Fair Trade Group, Soup Wagon Group, and SWYPE Youth Group. The parish is associated with St Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School and Mylnhurst Catholic Preparatory School & Nursery. Baptism planning should start at least 3 months in advance.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Parents attend an evening of preparation for their child's Baptism. A preparation course for Confirmation is run periodically, aimed at children in secondary education.

Marriage preparation includes a six-session course for engaged couples. A weekend run by World-Wide Marriage Encounter gives engaged couples the opportunity to talk honestly about their future lives together. Anyone who believes they or someone they know should receive the sacrament of the sick should speak to the Parish Priest.
