Carmel of the Holy Spirit and Our Lady of Peace, Dolgellau

Introduction

The Carmel of the Holy Spirit and Our Lady of Peace in Dolgellau, within the Diocese of Wrexham, was given a special mission to pray for Wales. This Carmel is situated on the road ascending the Cader Idris mountain range.

Music and liturgy

The daily celebration of the Eucharist is the centre of the community's day. The sisters gather in choir seven times a day before the Blessed Sacrament to pray the Divine Office. The community's life is shaped by prayer, both liturgical and personal, nourished by Sacred Scripture.

Parish life

The community's chief paid work is packing altar breads. The sisters grow much of their own fruit and vegetables and make cards and booklets. The community has Exposition for an hour twice a week, on certain feasts, and all-day Adoration one Friday a month. The community holds vocation events on Zoom.

Enquirers may be invited to stay in guest accommodation and have a live-in experience of up to three months. The community sings the Salve Regina on Saturdays and on Mary's feast days. Enquirers may come and visit, make a retreat, or meet some of the Sisters.
