About Christ the King
Christ the King is a Roman Catholic church in Birmingham, West Midlands. It is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
Music and liturgy
Masses at this church follow the Ordinariate's specific liturgy, a form of the Roman Rite that incorporates Anglican liturgical traditions. The parish priest helps maintain Anglican traditions, including specific liturgical texts and music, within a Catholic framework.
Parish life
The parish priest provides chaplaincy services to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield. The assistant priest provides hospital ministry, house visits, and administers the Last Rites. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the assistant priest maintained a buddying system to support isolated and elderly parishioners. The parish includes a convent of the Sisters Minor of St Francis. The parish is undergoing a merger of the Newman Cluster churches to form a new community, potentially named Sacred Heart and St John Henry Newman.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Baptisms are arranged individually with the priest rather than in monthly group sessions. The parish offers anointing and priest visits for those unable to attend Mass.
