Introduction

Our Lady of the Assumption church stands at the top of Old Oscott Hill in Birmingham, within the Archdiocese of Birmingham. The parish dates back to 1669, making it a long-established community in the area. Notable features

The present church building was opened in 1957. This church is four times the size of the chapel it replaced. A 13ft statue of the Virgin Mary at prayer, with feet pointing downward to signify her assumption, adorns the front of the church. The statue was commissioned by the church's architects, George Bernard Cox and Bernard Vincent James, and made by Peter Bohn.
