Christ the King

Parish life

The church commands a view across the East Sussex countryside. The parish serves the local community from two churches: one on the edge of Burwash village and the other in the grounds of Holy Cross Priory in Cross-in-Hand.

Children aged 7 or above in the parish can join the First Holy Communion Programme. If there are insufficient young people in a year, parents are introduced to confirmation programmes in larger neighbouring parishes.

The parish has a Finance and Administration Team made up of parishioners. The parish has two teams that meet periodically to assist the parish priest with running the parish.

Sacraments and pastoral care

Parents arrange baptism by contacting the parish clergy to meet and discuss their wishes, and baptisms normally take place on a weekend. The First Holy Communion course begins with Reconciliation, culminating in the children receiving their First Reconciliation, then prepares them for First Holy Communion. One year's notice is required before a wedding, during which the couple meets with the parish clergy, completes paperwork, and attends marriage preparation.
