About Christ the King
Christ the King is a Roman Catholic church in Thornaby, North Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Middlesbrough.
Introduction
Christ the King was built in the 1960s to serve the large-scale development of Thornaby.
Architecture and furnishings
F B Swainston designed the church, one of many Teesside places of worship by this architect. The church building and surrounding grounds occupy the site of what was once Thornaby aerodrome. An adjoining chapel offers space for quiet prayer and reflection. Large doors and a ramped entrance allow easy access for disabled visitors or those with prams or buggies.
Parish life
Christ the King Church serves the Catholic community of Thornaby-on-Tees along with sister parish Saint Patrick's. A Church Repository is open every Sunday after Mass. There is a parish Social Committee which meets as necessary.
During Lent, Stations of the Cross are said. Confessions are available by request, with contact made to the parish priest.
