About St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi is a Roman Catholic church in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Middlesbrough.

Introduction

St Francis church was built circa 1934 to serve the Catholic community in the expanding areas of west Linthorpe, Acklam, and Whinney Banks. Saint Clare's church was built in 1967 as a separate parish to relieve congregation pressure at Saint Francis.

Parish life

The parish holds fairtrade certification. An independent but mutually supporting social club, St Francis Social Club, is established with its own premises at the rear of the church presbytery. The parish's geographic area includes a number of residential and nursing homes. The Piety Stall at St Francis's can be extended at the back to provide more room.
