Corpus Christi

Introduction

Corpus Christi church in Leeds, within the Diocese of Leeds, was opened in 1962.

History

The parish was founded from Mount Saint Mary's in 1932 in the care of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The first church was an army hut from the 1914-18 war re-erected for Mass.

Parish life

The Parish of Saint John Henry Newman was formed in 2011 to include the three Churches of Saint Theresa (Crossgates), Saint Gregory (Swarcliffe), and Corpus Christi (Osmondthorpe). The Parish Church of Saint John Henry Newman is Saint Theresa's Church on Station Road, Crossgates, with services also held at Corpus Christi and Saint Gregory.

Corpus Christi Primary School is a Catholic school serving the southern part of the Parish of Blessed John Henry Newman. The newly formed parish of Saint John Henry Newman held its first Pastoral Parish Council meeting on January 4th 2012. The Pastoral Council normally meets six times a year and seeks to make decisions by consensus.
