About Holy Family
Holy Family is a Roman Catholic church in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Westminster.
Introduction
Holy Family Church is located in Welwyn Garden City, within the Archdiocese of Westminster. The church was opened in 1967. A tall bell tower stands at the southeast corner of the church.
History
Initial plans for the church were drawn by De Soissons, Peacock, Hodges and Robinson in 1959, but the built church differed substantially from those plans. Harold Barker prepared re-ordering plans in 1973 that included the removal of the high altar and communion rails. The church features walls of local brick and copper-clad roofs.
Notable features
Gilded fibreglass statues of the Holy Family and Our Lady, created by Gordon Beningfield, are inside the church. A square stone font with a circular polished brass cover is present in the church.
