Holy Spirit Church

Introduction

In 2015, the church hall at Fetcham was declared unsafe and had to be demolished; a new annex to the church was built and opened on 1 October 2015.

History

The first recorded Mass in Fetcham since the Reformation took place in a private house on Lower Road in April 1941. Mass continued in private houses until 1953, when Fetcham Village Hall became the Sunday Mass Centre. During the evening of Ash Wednesday 1987, a disastrous fire broke out in the church, causing massive internal damage and rendering the church unusable for a prolonged period.

Parish life

The parish encompasses East and West Horsley, Ockham, and Great and Little Bookham. The parish has been involved in the Shoebox Appeal since 2015, sending nearly 100 boxes each year.

The parish delivers a Confirmation Programme every two years for young baptised Catholics in Year 10 and above. The parish has a Parish Team, a small group invited by the Parish Priest to support the running of the parish and consider pastoral initiatives. The parish has a Parish Finance Committee established under Canon law, responsible for managing parish finances, estate, health and safety. The parish has a library with a downloadable catalogue.

Sacraments and pastoral care

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also available on request by contacting the parish clergy. For other sacraments and funerals, parishioners contact the parish clergy via the usual contacts.
