About Our Lady and Saint Helen
Our Lady and Saint Helen is a Roman Catholic church in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire. It is part of the Archdiocese of Glasgow.
Introduction
Construction of the church began in 1976, and the first Mass was celebrated on 13 March 1978.
History
Before the parish was founded, from 1955 the clergy from Croy celebrated Mass in Condorrat Miners' Welfare hall. In 2014 the parish celebrated its 40th anniversary. On 24 June 2018 the 40th anniversary of the opening of the church was celebrated at Mass with the archbishop presiding. The incorporation of Saint Helen in the parish name reflects the original association with Holy Cross.
Music and liturgy
The parish maintains a Novena to Saint Anthony. A Rosary Group gathers in the parish. The parish offers a Children's Liturgy. The parish has a Divine Mercy Devotion.
Parish life
The parish is associated with Saint Helen's Primary and Saint Maurice's High School. A 200 Club, a monthly lottery registered with North Lanarkshire Council, raises funds for specific improvement works approved by the Archdiocese. The parish holds a First Friday Coffee Morning.
