About Our Lady of Fatima - Barnton

Our Lady of Fatima - Barnton is a Roman Catholic church in Barnton, Cheshire. It is part of the Diocese of Shrewsbury.

Introduction

The church of Our Lady of Fatima in Barnton was the first church in England dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. Six apparitions of Our Lady to three young children at Fatima in Portugal, from 13 May to 13 October 1917, are commemorated by the dedication of the church of Our Lady of Fatima.

History

Sunday Mass for the embryo parish in Barnton was first celebrated in June 1950 in the Memorial Hall, which became a Mass Centre. The parish of Saint John Vianney, established on Easter Sunday 2013, incorporates the older parish of Our Lady of Fatima, Barnton (1953).

Major restructural repairs and renovations in the 1980s included a church hall and a new Lakeland Green Stone altar, tabernacle and lectern. A stained glass window in the church of Our Lady of Fatima depicts a miracle.
