About St Wilfrid’s - Northwich
St Wilfrid’s - Northwich is a Roman Catholic church in Northwich, Cheshire. It is part of the Diocese of Shrewsbury.
Introduction
The foundation stone for St Wilfrid’s R.C. Church in Northwich was laid on August 25th 1864 by Canon Frith of Stockport on behalf of Bishop Brown.
History
Around 1840, the Catholic population in Northwich rose dramatically due to Irish immigrants, and worship was held in a small cottage in York Buildings. The former Congregationalist Chapel in Cross Street became the new place of worship for several years. The firm of Leicester and Drinkwater carried out the construction of the church. The parish has a Parish Sister who provides pastoral ministry of presence and support.
