About Our Lady of Lourdes
Our Lady of Lourdes is a Roman Catholic church in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. It is part of the Diocese of Leeds.
Introduction
Our Lady of Lourdes church in Sheepridge serves the eastern area of the parish in Huddersfield.
History
In May 2007, a new parish was established to serve the northern urban area of Huddersfield. Over the summer of 2007, the parish was formed, involving the closure of the church of Saint Brigid, Lowergate, the chapel of St Martin de Porres, the chapel of Saint Bernadette, Bradley and the church of Saint James, Oakes. In September 2007, the parish was named as the Parish of the Holy Redeemer. The Diocesan Music department facilitates a very talented Youth Choir that sings at Sunday Masses and in other churches and on BBC radio.
Sacraments and pastoral care
Young people in Year 6 or above are invited, usually once a year, to petition the Parish Priest for Confirmation, and must explain clearly why they wish to receive it. Adults who have never received Baptism are invited to speak with the Parish Priest and undertake a supervised period of formation, after which they are baptised and receive Confirmation and Holy Communion.
