About Our Lady of Lourdes
Our Lady of Lourdes is a Roman Catholic church in Perth, Perth and Kinross. It is part of the Diocese of Dunkeld.
Introduction
The church was designed by Edinburgh architect Peter Whiston. In August 1968, the primary children were brought together in their own new school, Our Lady's primary, built on a site adjacent to the church.
History
In the first full year there were fifty-two baptisms, indicating the young composition of the parish. The church is built on a flat steel frame supporting a copper roof, with outside walls of road setts and windows inset with crosses in blue glass.
Parish life
The music group has about six singers and four instrumentalists playing guitars, flute and keyboard. A small music group leads Sunday singing, choosing hymns suited to the readings and singing parts of the liturgy, including works by John Rutter and contemporary Christian songwriters.
The parish community includes a Polish community and many others from different backgrounds. At Christmas, the SSVP conference has a party for the older members of the parish.
