About Our Lady of Lourdes
Our Lady of Lourdes is a Roman Catholic church in Sawston, Cambridgeshire. It is part of the Diocese of East Anglia.
Introduction
Constant financial difficulties faced the Huddlestones in keeping Sawston Hall and its chapel going, and more than once the roof fell into disrepair.
History
Captain Huddlestone tried in 1920 to restart Sawston Hall's chapel, previously always provided with its own chaplain; priests from Cambridge afterwards said Mass, usually monthly, and by 1930 Sawston again had its own chaplain. Parish activities grew through the Thirties until World War II, when the War Department took over Sawston Hall for the US Eighth Air Force and the public could not use the chapel while the forces were in residence.
Parish life
A Mass in Cantonese is offered monthly. On YouTube, Mass is available online for Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint John Fisher Parish.
Service for Saint John Fisher at Cambourne Church Centre comes from Sawston. Barley Manor in Great Shelford appears in the parish list of nursing homes. The white Parish House has the church behind it.
