About Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission is a Roman Catholic church in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. It is part of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Great Britain.
Introduction
In November 2018, the Syro-Malabar Mission of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was established in Wolverhampton. The new mission comprised the Syro-Malabar faithful of the Holy Qurbana centres of Walsall, Sedgley, and Telford.
History
In August 2001, a convention was held in Stafford under the leadership of a priest and a sister. A Mass centre was established in Sedgley in 2002, where the first Syro-Malabar Mass within the mission was celebrated, continuing until 2011.
Music and liturgy
The mission was established to enhance spiritual growth according to the liturgical traditions and norms of the Syro-Malabar church, through the celebration of the Holy Qurbana, sacraments and sacramentals, proclamation of the word of God, and faith formation. The community gathers to celebrate the Holy Qurbana in Malayalam.
Parish life
In 2011, a new vicar succeeded the previous one at the Sedgley mass centre, and another priest joined the mission, together overseeing 16 Mass centres.
Sacraments and pastoral care
The first Mission director in-charge was appointed to fulfill the pastoral and ecclesiastical needs of the faithful. By 2010, a coordinator was appointed for the Syro-Malabar Catholic Mission in the UK.
