Music and liturgy

The parish has no organist, so the undertakers advise on availability and, if none is available, the congregation sings the hymns alone. Only religious music is permitted in the funeral liturgy, and no recorded music can be played because the parish lacks a PLL License. A piper may play the pipes outside the church, as is customary, but non-religious music is not permitted inside during liturgies.

Parish life

The body of the deceased may be received into the church the evening before the funeral in a short service usually attended only by close family. Flowers can be arranged with a florist chosen by the family and placed on the coffin or on the sanctuary.

The parish arranges home visits for the Anointing of the Sick for those seriously ill or about to undergo a serious operation. Patients in hospital can request a visit from a chaplain with Communion by contacting the parish or the Ward Staff Nurse.
